276 Mental Health and Personal Freedom with Kristina Sarhadi

Kristina Sarhadi is a holistic therapist, Reiki Master, writer, and “recovering social worker.” A Hudson Valley native, she is the founder of Kingston Reiki + Holistic Therapy in Downtown Kingston, where she also runs The New Leaf Holistic Health Clinic with Dr. Ileana Tecchio and Dr. Glenn Finley. Kristina studied at Vassar College, UC Berkeley, the University of Southern California, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the Soma Healing Center, and received the International Health Leadership Award in 2011. Since 2012 she has lived in Kingston, where she is an ongoing Clinic Provider at The O+ Festival, an active member of several mutual aid and wellness circles, an enthusiastic punk show attendee and a published poet. She has received several awards for her writing and multiple Chronogrammies for her work with clients. Most recently, she was voted Best Mental Health Counselor in 2023. Prior to opening her private practice, Kristina spent a decade in social services as a domestic violence counselor, foster care case manager, teen mentor, women’s legal advocate, Early Intervention specialist, youth arts group director, and crisis counselor for victims of abuse, neglect and sexual assault. Because she has always been obsessed with balancing pain and joy, she has also taught preschool, run a cupcake shop, managed local bands, and written for several punk music publications.

Currently, Kristina works with clients to integrate deep trauma exploration with energy work and narrative reframing—helping folks of all ages become more mindful, empowered and joyful in their daily lives. An Iranian-Italian-American, Kristina’s philosophy centers around self-empowerment, mindfulness techniques, and consciousness engineering—a combination of ancient Eastern practices and modern Human Potential modalities. On rare days off she can be found reading in a sunspot with her tiny cat, Button, or laughing till her stomach hurts with her three sisters, two nieces, and one nephew.

Today Kristina shares how and why she works to support other’s mental health. We talk about the difficulties people may experience on Memorial Day mourning the loss of family members/friends while others protest the day for its perceived pro-military agenda or bypass the grief with barbecues. Kristina shares some thoughts on how to navigate the days’ heaviness.

She opens up about her own process of grief and loss related to a long term relationship/friendship and how it has taught her the power of making hard decisions when they are the ones that will open you up to living authentically in your personal freedom. This wasn’t her first challenging transition in life. You can read more about the serious accident that caused the pivot in her career leading her to where she is today.

Because of her personal experiences in cutting cords that don’t serve you, Kristina supports her clients in doing the same, often helping them release and repair when needed.

I loved this conversation and related to so much of Kristina’s lived experience. She’s such an inspiration! She can be found on Instagram, Facebook or reached via phone/text (845-383-0137) for anyone interested in connecting with her and her work.

#144 Hope and Healing with Reiki Master Lorry Salluzzi

Seems like a good day to focus on hope and healing. Allow me to introduce Lorry Salluzzi who is a stress management therapist, Lupus survivor, psychic medium, Reiki master, healer and teacher. She was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 1988 when her doctor could not be sure she would live through the night. Medications saved her, but she was not getting any better. Through the practice of Reiki and Guided Imagery Meditation, she achieved full remission 2 years later and has had no evidence of the disease since 1990. Her doctor still sends her patients as do many other practitioners in the allopathic and holistic fields. She has had success with many chronic health challenges such as cancer, depression, pain, migraine, Lupus, chronic fatigue, Epstein-Barr, etc. Lorry believes that Reiki and Meditation will change your life in a positive way by managing stress before a disease can occur. And the amazing thing is Reiki is something you can do for yourself whenever you need a little love!

I think it’s important to mention that Lorry’s story is not meant to imply that if you are suffering from some illness that it’s your fault, that you haven’t done enough. Some things are just simply out of your control. Her story and her work is meant to empower you to take positive steps for your own wellbeing if that’s something that resonates with you. Tune in to hear Lorry’s wild journey into Reiki and be inspired into hope for whatever it is you’re needing to call into your life.

Here’s a direct link to Lorry’s offerings on her Patreon page.

Heya friends! Today I am joined by ALL of the ladies I co-create with over at Anahata. Allow me to introduce:

Some of her specialties include Children’s Yoga, Pre & Post-Natal Yoga and Mommy & Me. Ana feels very drawn to serving Women, Families and Children as she feels there is so much healing to be done among these groups and the way society views family roles. She is the mother of two children and enjoys writing, philosophy, design and connecting with the Earth. Ana has a B.A. in Philosophy from Boston College and an M.A. in Eastern Classics from St. John’s College (Santa Fe). She teaches Saturdays at 10am Eastern with Anahata via IG Live. You can connect with her on Instagram @anagioiayoga

Jennifer was a guest on the show in early 2019 for Episode #51.

Yukari Ogawa, a vet tech who traveled to the US despite only speaking enough English to introduce herself in order to attend a school that would allow her to pursue her passion, working with animals. After observing how her colleagues suffered from compassion fatigue and how the industry overall didn’t take care of the people working in it, she began a business to help those in her industry. She found “The Work” of Byron Katie to be a profound tool in helping her with her own stressful thoughts that she’s now begun facilitating the Katie Worksheets for others. Yukari is leading online classes with Anahata on Monday’s at 10am eastern via Zoom. You can also request to join her Facebook Group to discuss “The Work.” Yukari was on the show last summer, Episode #73 if you want to have a listen!

They share about how quarantine has impacted their lives, appreciating the disruption to routines that weren’t supporting their needs, what they are learning about themselves during this experience, learning to settle into the art of not “producing,” eating well to support health, honoring the sacred, the divine feminine and masculine, what they miss most (hint, HUGS), how they take care of themselves and what they are envisioning for the future.

All of their offerings are online and by donation, so please if you want to connect, do so! Or if you want to do nothing, we fully support that too 🙂

#113 Leach Gooch “Four Minutes a Day”

Yay! Brainy Fox is back! Our theme music by Shana Falana rides again!!! Ida and I check in, get deep about fear and thriving and then I play an interview with Leah Gooch of Four Minutes a Day who offers Reiki, Yoga, and Meditation. Leah shares some of her journey to and through Reiki and how she does remote distant Reiki services. I attempt to analogize this phenomenon with Quantum Physics. If anyone out there really understands Quantum Physics/Mechanics, please come and be a guest on my show! Leah, otherwise known as Gooch, also shares her work in jails and prisons and talks a bit about her experience there and the profound shifts she’s seen in her students from experiencing yoga and meditation with one another. She’s been offering a daily 4 minute meditation, sent via email, to everyone on her mailing list and expects to continue throughout the physical distancing period we are going through. She has a few remaining free remote Reiki sessions available and thereafter offers her work on a sliding scale. She’s awesome and wonderful, and I am grateful for her work here on this planet. Gooch’s words of advice for what we’re going through right now…”call your Mother, be kind to others and to yourself.” Yes, yes, yes.
