271 Heather Duke “Center for Symbolic Studies” and Daphne Fiori-Wood “St. Baldrick’s”

Today I enjoyed speaking with Heather Duke – who is one of the sparkly beings and co-creators over at the Center for Symbolic Studies. A non-profit with a mission to inspire nature-based spirituality, leading to personal growth and communal awareness. Founded by Drs. Robin and Stephen Larsen, inspired by the works of friend and mentor Joseph Campbell- The Center for Symbolic Studies has been offering a window into the Mythic Imagination for over 30 years through seasonal festivals, Dream Workshops, sacred teaching by Shamans from around the world, lectures, and celebrations of art and dance surrounded and inspired by nature.

Register for their Beltane Festival on May 20th, rain date, May 21st.

Heather talks about her own work in neurofeedback, dreams, Beltane and the Center’s other happenings, Vanaver Caravan, Wild Arts, nature and community. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

Later in the show I share my conversation with Daphne Fiori-Wood who is shaving her hair on April 29th to raise money for childhood cancer research with St. Baldrick’s. Research is hope for kids with cancer, but donations to find cures have been down since 2020. She will also be donating her hair to Wigs forKids!, wigsforkids.org, at the end of the event. Your gift will give kids hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants. Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Can you help? Thank you!

Here’s the link to Earthday tips to living more sustainably, and here’s the show with Kevin Ann Jordan talking about sustainable style.

In the first half of today’s show, I am joined by Elissa Garay, Freelance Editor & Writer in Travel & Lifestyle. A modern-day explorer, perpetual seeker, and diligent travel scribe, she’s also a champion for sustainable tourism and believes that we can all travel with conscience, for the greater good. She studied journalism at SUNY New Paltz and has since 2016 lived here in our home base of Kingston, NY.

Today, Elissa shares her path to writing about sustainable tourism, what sustainable tourism means and tips for the traveler on how to adopt more green travel practices.

Following our conversation, I shared a positive story about what has happened locally in my hometown of Olive to better conserve and preserve our natural resources during a time of major development here in the Hudson Valley. The Pacama Conservation Organization has been vital in preserving land near and dear to me.

In the second half of the show I am joined by returning guest, Amy Summers, Raising HOPE Program Director. She is responsible for overall management and leadership of Raising HOPE including outreach, recruitment, interviewing, and managing workshops, trainings, and support groups. Amy joined the United Way team in 2019.

Before joining Raising HOPE, Amy directed a Big Brothers Big Sisters program at Amherst College, owned Transformations Workshops and Gallery, and taught meditation and Conscious Communication at the Five College Consortium. Amy shares about the Benefit Concert for Raising Hope’s Scholarship Fund happening on Saturday April 29th at Rosendale Theater. BETTY will be the special guest performer at this special happening! We also talk about their mentorship program and the amazing workshops that they offer on a regular basis. It’s always uplifting to hear about the good work happening at Raising Hope.

269 The Impact of Media with Marielena Ferrer

On this month’s installment of Spirituality and Politics, Marielena Ferrer and I discuss the state of Media today and it’s impact on the younger generation. This conversation was inspired by a comment Marielena heard about how media fails to inspire hope for the future or action to build a better future. Plus we randomly discuss families and the lack of support for them in today’s world. Hmmmm, personal experience, ha!

268 “Human Design” with Dilek Isildak

Today’s guest, Dilek Isildak, is an artist, muse, and human design guide. Making art and the art of living is her way. Born in Turkey, raised in DC and seasoned in NYC, her photography captures the magic and mystery of life. She’s been guided by her own personal journey and her passion for connecting dots and seeing patterns to her Human Design work and now guides others in how to live their design.

Today we went where I’ve never gone before with Human Design, to the neutrinos, stardust and Crystals of Consciousness. For those of you new or not to Human Design, this conversation will give you much to contemplate when it comes to understanding you and your energy body. Yes, we cover some of the basics about the aura types, but we also talk practically about how an understanding of your own design will assist you in living your true self and relating to others in a more compassionate and easeful way.

Here’s your Full Moon report that I shared at the end of the show.
