307 Spirituality and Politics with Marielena Ferrer “Preparing for 2024”

Getting prepared spiritually, politically and mentally for 2024! Using a planner, scheduling life, color coding, scheduling emotions, the conscious bath, receiving, prioiritizing, consciously choosing what makes up your life. It’s an election year, a year 8 and in the Major Arcana, the 8 is The Strength or The Justice, depending upon which structure you use. What does this mean for us? Also, Chinese Astrology – getting amped for the Power Crone phase, plus this week’s New Moon!

304 Spirituality and Politics “Resolving Conflict and Learning”

Today Marielena and I wander through various subjects related to Politics and Spirituality… Starting with Pablo Helguera’s Método de Discursos Sociales. How do you resolve conflict? Start with naming the problem to make sure you actually understand it.

This meanders over to my curiosities about Marina Abromovic’s Rhythm Series (’73-’74), and themes of the sword, and power over others…

Here’s the Article; Education: Why not a race to the top? – that inspires us to think about how to chance education to one focusing on learning to learn, learning to do, learning to live together, learning to be.

What does this bring up? Fear of failure and criticism…Are we all born with resilience? This is a subject for next year… who wants to join in?

Final words from Marielena and Theresa on the end of the year…Marielena suggests some solstice writing on your wishes… and how you can take steps to fulfillment.

295 “The Sabbath” with Marielena Ferrer on Spirituality and Politics

This month during our monthly conversation about Spirituality and Politics, Marielena Ferrer and I delve into the idea of the Sabbath, a day of rest. Inspired by this New Yorker article, we talk about the history of the Sabbath, what it would mean if we all could enjoy a day of rest, the complexity and inequity in the concept of rest, how we relate to it personally, and what a universally accepted day of rest might do for community and global relations.

Let us know what you think!

Here’s your Moon report for this Saturday’s New Moon.

287 Spirituality and Politics “The Economy and the Tarot”

It’s another installment of politics and spirituality where Marielena and I go off on some subjects loosely affiliated with the art of living and the art of living together. Inspired by this NPR article where they consult the Tarot, we talk about economic theories, or theories in general, and how perhaps we’ve forgotten that they are in fact just theories. We might actually be creating our reality, and inflation, so if that’s the case, how can we do it better? We’re in The Tower folks!!!

269 The Impact of Media with Marielena Ferrer

On this month’s installment of Spirituality and Politics, Marielena Ferrer and I discuss the state of Media today and it’s impact on the younger generation. This conversation was inspired by a comment Marielena heard about how media fails to inspire hope for the future or action to build a better future. Plus we randomly discuss families and the lack of support for them in today’s world. Hmmmm, personal experience, ha!

265 “The Art of Living” with Isabel Cotarelo and Marielena Ferrer

On this month’s installment of Spirituality and Politics, Marelena Ferrer and I are joined by Isabel Cotarelo, an artist who’s life experiences express through her work. “The need to modify the contiguous space and the objects in it has always emanated as an irresistible force. The experiences that I have had throughout my life have changed the output of that force. As a Latina growing up in a matriarchal family, the useful craft making process and cooking that bonded members and generated stories and guidance are now part of my story and a repository from where I can launch a new re-invention of self.”

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and living and working in Kingston, NY, Isabel studied Fine Art and Counseling, has received numerous grants and awards and exhibited internationally since 1983.

She co-curated the exhibit at the Arts Society of Kingston featuring women from around the globe to Celebrate “HERstory.”

Our conversation weaves through the experiences of being a woman, being raised in a matriarchal family, the importance of spaces for women and Isabel’s own HERstory.

261 Spirituality, Politics and Self Love with Marielena Ferrer

On this month’s installment of Spirituality and Politics, Marielena and I discuss the latest big media campaign for Jesus, “He Gets Us.” We share our thoughts on the goals of this campaign and what it might mean for Christianity. Is this a good thing? Will it really begin to behave like Jesus, and love thy neighbor? Naturally this leads us to talk about cults, but in a productive way, I hope. We talk about the points from this New Yorker article about how people find themselves in high demand groups and why it’s hard to leave. How invested are we in our beliefs? What do we sacrifice by not allowing them to evolve with us? Somehow we got on the subject of Madonna and ageism which in a way relates to our final conversation on self love. We leave you with a self love, Valentine’s Day, challenge to look yourself in the mirror and say, “I love you.” Can you do it fully naked in front of a body mirror? That’s some powerful self love!

Plus, Warren and Manuel share top influential women in history. Can you do better than me at guessing them?

It’s that time of the month! Marielena Ferrer returns for another conversation diving into politics and spirituality. Today on the show we talk about how we’re starting out the New Year and how our relationship to TIME has an impact on how we make decisions in life. We also set the tone for our talks on politics, explaining where we’re at and check in on our current feelings about the state of political affairs in the US. Today also happens to be my BIRTHDAY so Marielena kindly indulges me in a little Tarot Reading inspired by my personal new year.

248 Spirituality and Politics and Racism -AGAIN- with Marielena Ferrer

Today we begin by sharing and discussing Nikki Fogerty’s weekly Tarot report.

Then we’re off to the races talking about racism, what it means, why it happens and what we think about how to resolve our country’s racist problems. Marielena talks about what motivates people and how this affects their overall behavior including stereotyping and controlling others. This conversation was prompted by the political problems in LA with racist speech.
