345 Samhain and the Change of Seasons with Jenny Mulak and Beth Carestia of The Goddess Party

Today I got to sit down with two of the Goddesses from The Goddess Party, Jenny Mulak and Beth Carestia. We talk about the turn of the seasons and what arises for us as we move through Autumn into the dark of Winter. Other topics on the show today, piercing the veil, Samhain meaning and rituals, Goddesses, Divine Feminine, ancestors, tarot and archetypes. Get your tickets for the next The Goddess Party performance on November 1st at Basillica Hudson before they’re gone…

Jenny Mulak is a healer, a problem solver, an herbalist, flower practitioner and energy worker, a writer, a recovering rule follower, and a curious student of spiritual teachings.  Jenny is the founder, alchemist and earth steward behind Cosmic Mother – a botanical skincare and herbal potions line – handcrafted with plants from her garden and local farms. She is delighted to make her home in Shokan, NY with her partner, Ariel, and their two rescue pups.

It is here that she recovered from her years of corporate life – where she was good at her job as a program manager, but never satisfied as she wasn’t even close to being aligned with her life’s purpose.  As she continues to strip away years of programming and societal and familial conditioning, the plants support her every step of the way.

Nature has been Jenny’s greatest teacher and healer.  She is passionate about sharing with others how living in harmony with the cycles of Nature can connect us back to ourselves and the embrace of the cosmos and Mother Earth.

Beth Carestia has been living in the Kingston area for over a decade and has come to love our sweet community. She’s a proud Rosendale Ukulele Group member and an O+ alum with The Goddess Party. Most recently she hosted the O+ Comedy show, a major personal highlight. Also know as a local Tarot Reader and an all around shenanigan having woman, she brings joy wherever she goes.

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.

Our show music is from Shana Falana!

319 Joanna Leffeld “Relating to Money and Your Ancestors”

Today, my guest is Joanna Leffeld, more famously known as the “Moolah Doula.” She’s worn many roles in her life including certified financial planner, mom, yoga teacher, artist, and hospice volunteer. She was a guest on the show a few years ago where she laid the foundation of what and why she does her work. In the past few years, she’s gone deeper into her own healing as it relates to trauma and ancestral trauma. Today she talks about how this relates to her work, how it’s helped her surface her gifts and how it she will be supporting others to do this work as well. As a trained end of life doula, she sits bedside with terminal patients, and listens to regretful stories of lives not lived to the fullest, missed opportunities, and hopes and dreams unfulfilled. This profoundly shaped her perspective on why living a conscious life in alignment is essential to health and abundance. Drawing from these unique and varied experiences, she has created a powerful process to help individuals and couples heal and align their relationship with money.

She has some in person and virtual workshops on the horizon:

Cultivating a Life of Abundance with Joanna Leffeld and Bahia Miller  Thursday, April 11th from 7-8:30pm. This workshop is Free Through Sacred Reciprocity via the Holistic Life Community who she continues to volunteer with on a regular basis during their virtual health care weeks.

Healing Your Money Issues Workshop in Brooklyn at MahaRose on May 30th from 7-9pm in person.

Last but not least, you can find her art at Joannaleffeldart.com

Getting ready for next Monday’s New Moon Solar Eclipse with the help from Tanaaz. If you’re in the Hudson Valley, come see us outside Radio Kingston for next week’s show followed by a soundbath and meditation.

#195 Samhain and Connecting with Our Ancestors

Today I wander into the Festival of Samhain and share some traditions or rituals that may inspire you. This includes a conversation and experiential practice to contemplate the lives of our ancestors based off of the book, My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakam. P.S. the show officially starts around minute 11, but I thought the superstition conversation with my colleagues was thematically appropriate to include!

Here are the Youtubers who provided some of the information and rituals shared -> Rebekka of the Witches’ Cookery, and Alwyn Oak.

Here’s the Spotify playlist of the songs we listened to throughout the show. Feel free to use them as you feel called for the contemplation practices I offer in today’s show, or just pause the recording and sit in silence, journal or listen to your own music.

Plus, here’s the info on the Ringing the Bells for Climate Change event I mentioned.

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda of Radio Kingston.

#134 Jaguar Mary X “Midnight Medicine Journey”

Today’s guest is none other than Jaguar Mary X host of Midnight Medicine Journey, a show that was birthed as a mash-up of recitations and discussions about science-fiction books by people of color, interviews with local and global artists, plant healers, spiritual visionaries, and medicine people with featured music from around the world. It continues to evolve as JMX expands and expounds about afro-futures, plant medicine, ancestors and spirit-infused ritual practice with an emphasis on queerness and mysticism. JMX identifies as a performance artist, a medicine woman working primarily with the plant mugwort, an elder, a fairy being, a hooper, a buddhist, all gender or non-gender, and down for discussing the movement away from the punitive justice system. Today we get to learn a little about JMX’s upbringing and deep dive into Buddhism at an early age which included hours of chanting mantra which led to some sharing of wisdom on language, decipherability, thought processes, and neurological rewiring. JMX shares their love of mugwort, how they use it in incense and ritual. Speaking of, you can purchase the magical stuff that she makes via artemisianegra.com/  In the vein of mugwort and ritual, we talk self care and one of JMX’s favorite Midnight Medicine Journey shows on Nap Ministry and rest as resistance.

We close out the show talking about anger, desire, happiness, and gratitude. I am grateful for Jaguar Mary X and the archive of her shows that await me.

Today’s show was engineered by Manuel Blas of La Dosis Perfecta.

Our show music is from Shana Falana !!!

We also heard, “Beautiful One” by Simi Stone, “Dance” by ESG, and “If You Could Hear Me Now” by The Mammals.
