351 The Divine Feminine

Today I spend some time sharing my thoughts about the divine feminine. Sparked by a contradiction that I observed during the most recent presidential election, I wanted to share what I believe to be the divine feminine, how it shows up in our lives, and how we can cultivate it for ourselves and in our community. If you have thoughts about this and want to talk or brainstorm please reach out!

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.

Our show music is from Shana Falana!

334 Molly McCarthy Tweedy and Jenny Wonderling “Community Healing”

Today I get to welcome Molly McCarthy Tweedy and Jenny Wonderling to the show to talk about a special event they are hosting this Thursday, featuring the music and global healing work of Samuel J. Happening at Crescent in Gardiner on 8.8, the Lion’s Gate!

Molly @evolutionary.holistic.healing is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Evolutionary Psychotherapy & Holistic Healing, a healing center that opened its doors in 2021 in uptown Kingston, NY, and provides holistic mental health, recovery, and wellness services.

For the past 25 years, Molly has dedicated herself to guiding others on their transformative journeys to heal. Her educational background includes a Master’s degree in social work from NYU, a license in Clinical Social Work, and a CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor). She has studied AFT (Aroma Freedom Technique), DONA (Doulas of North America), Journey Dance, and MotherWoman. She has extensively trained in trauma treatment, Attachment Focused EMDR, completed courses in Violet Alchemy and Tony Robbins’ Mastery University, and achieved a 200-hour Hatha yoga teacher training and certification.

Beyond her therapeutic expertise, Molly is a musician, dancer, and artist, performing since 2009, and recognizing the power of creativity as both an outlet for expression and a catalyst for healing.

Jenny Wonderling @jennywonderling brings her deep love of the planet and respect for ancestral wisdom to her writing, event production, Breathwork classes, space holding, and community building spaces in the Hudson Valley. She strongly believes in the transformational powers of inter-woven creativity and how we can help bring each other’s audacious dreams and unique gifts to fruition. She co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced BLOOM and LUMINOUS and Co-Founded Circle Creative Collective. She’s also a proud mama of 3 sons. Jenny’s work can be found at jennywonderling.com and crescenthv.com

They share about the rare opportunity to catch Samuel J in our neck of the woods, and then we continue our conversation learning about Molly’s work and Jenny’s evolution with Crescent, how they are both changing the paradigm through healing, creativity and connecting community.

I share at the beginning of the show, the health journey a friend and past guest Jeanne Brooks has been on as a reminder of the importance of the work of Molly and Jenny and many others in our community. If you’d like to support Jeanne, you can subscribe to her Substack.

Lastly, here’s your New Moon report!

275 “The Goddess Party”

Today is about The Goddess Party, a new project spearheaded from long time Hudson Valley musician Shana Falana in collaboration with Erica Quitzow and Sarah Perrotta. Featuring a choir of 30+ local singers, a rock band, and a willingness to interpret the likes of Kate Bush, Panda Bear, and PJ Harvey. “A cult worth joining.”

I am joined by Beth Carestia a member of the Choir like myself, and we hear from several of our co-creators by way of voice memo describing in some way what The Goddess Party means to them… magic, mystery, heart healing, collaboration, trust, creation, fun, true-self, singing, connection, the feminine, The Goddess…

We’re performing Friday at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30pm and the movie Midsommer will follow our performance. You can get tickets ($12-$15) via Opus 40.

The Goddess Party band is Erica Quitzow, Sarah Perrotta, Betsy Wright, Sarah Carlson, Shana Falana, Lysa Opfer and Jenn Anderson.

Here’s a link to the Rosendale Ukulele Group that Beth and I gush about. Another mental health activity for us.

#186 Jayla Kai “Debut EP Epitome”

Jayla Kai grew up in Woodstock, a town synonymous with the pureness of music. It evokes a togetherness where the community has each other’s back and the culture is almost symptomatic of its people (Dylan, Bowie, Van Morrison, Levon Helm). Kai cites a handful of local musicians who have served as key mentors to her. Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), is one of these key mentors who has inspired and encouraged her. Kai’s Debut EP, Epitome, is out now following the release of her crunching single Apple Tree and Kai’s introductory track, I Can’t Lie. As far as opening bows go, Epitome EP is as confident as you’ll hear. It’s the sound of an artist quickly in-tune with her writing and finding a distinct voice that is completely her own. The songs she shares here are sharp, literate, and expressive on an EP that zips and shuffles; all melody and poetry. Epitome is a bold statement of intent. Listen to “Epitome” by Jayla Kai here: https://awal.ffm.to/epitome

On today’s show she shares about finding her creative instinctive voice, the making of her debut EP, making music, performing and staying authentic as life and career evolves. We heard the songs, Paperread, Apple Tree, and I Can’t Lie from “Epitome.”

Here’s where to learn more about The Hoot!

#100 “Goddesses” with Musician & Bodyworker, Natasha Althouse + Artist, Entrepreneur and Community Builder, Stephanie Diamond

Episode #100!!!! Made it to triple digits!

Today’s special guests are the epitome of the feminine… creative, artistic, talented, nurturing, healing, and mystical. What a pleasure it is to share their stories.

My first guest, Natasha Althouse@musicbynatasha, is a musician, vocalist, wife, mom and holistic bodyworker whose healing practice focuses on postural imbalances, stress induced tension, injury care, and digestive and reproductive health. I met Natasha a few years ago for Mayan Abdominal Massage work and was blown away by the profound nature of what she does, blending massage, sound and energy work together in a very powerful way. We get to chat about life, how and why she makes music, the unique nature of Mayan Abdominal Massage, her connection to Ixchel and so much more. She’s in the studio NOW working on an album which she expects to be birthed into the world sometime in 2020. She even gifts us with a little song during the interview. I cry…again.

Today’s second guest is the multi-dimensional Stephanie Diamond, Artist, Entrepreneur and Community-Builder. She founded Listings Project — listings and other opportunities geared towards artists and creatives — 17 years ago and talks about how it has transformed over the years into a legit community building business! She also facilitates 5-Rhythms and explains how the nature of the experience of dancing 5-Rhythms so closely mirrors the reality of life. Before doing any of those things, Stephanie was and always has been an artist, creating, largely around community. Her Art has been exhibited at MoMA, MASS MoCA, MoMA/P.S. 1, Studio Museum in Harlem, Queens Museum of Art, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Project Row Houses, Philadelphia Mural Arts, SculptureCenter, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius, Lithuania, to name a few. We talk about all this, plus the fact that she does not have a smart phone! I want what she doesn’t have!!!

Today’s show was engineered by Manuel Blas at Radio Kingston, http://www.radiokingston.org.

We heard music from our fave, Shana Falana, http://www.shanafalana.com/
