S.1 E.11 Denee Francese-Smith “Student of the Body”

Denee Francese-Smith LMT is a student of the body. All of it. The physical, the emotional, the spiritual.

During our conversation, Denee shares the prelude to listening deeply to her body, when she followed its lead and pivoted from a career in education to taking a big leap in opening up the popular and beloved Sissy’s cafe with, yes, her sister Shani in Uptown Kingston, NY. She talks about the passion, the business, and the eventual decision to step away from it to pursue what her body was next calling her to.

She is fascinated by the intersection of spirit and science and loves to explore that through her bodywork. Denee doesn’t see the body as separate parts. She sees it as one whole, beautiful system. When you work on one area, something else shifts too. When you’re on her table, Denee is not only thinking about muscles. she’s paying attention to your breath. Your nervous system. The way you hold yourself. The patterns that have formed over time. You’re muscles will soften, but something else softens too. Her work is about helping your body create space. Space in the tissues. Space in your chest. Space in your system. And from that spaciousness, you will move differently, grounded and with an open heart.

Denee shares openly and honestly about her experience in moving through the challenges of letting go, and how she found her voice after the ending of her most recent relationship. We hear about how intuition guides her and how she learned to listen to it. She shares generously her experience with and knowledge of the body and how it relates to her work, what fascia is, its connection to our life’s experiences, and the power of breath work to help move what the fascia holds.

S.1 E.6 Christie Jordan Barron “Practicing Living and Dying”

Today on the show we are joined by Christie Jordan Barron, an educator, mother, mover, maker, and somatic experiencing practitioner based in the Hudson Valley. Christie believes deeply in our essential need for connection to our own hearts, to nature, and to each other. She is dedicated to holding space for people to sense into and stay curious about the various parts and pieces that make us all tenderly human.

Our conversation weaves through Christie’s work, lived experiences and the deep wisdom she’s landed on along the way. We learn about her work in the practice of dying and how that supports us through deaths of all types and the grief that often accompanies loss. She shares insight into community’s role with grief and how that helps us in moving away from the expert paradigm. Her work as an educator has expanded to include sexual education, supporting youth navigating their relationship to their changing bodies and their autonomy. We talk about her role as mother and the complexities of what that surfaced for her. Our parenting conversation leads us to explore the balance between structure and freedom (masculine and feminine), and we spend some time talking about the challenges of navigating conflict and how to hold one accountable for their actions. Let us know what out conversation brings up for you!

332 Mary Evelyn Pritchard “The Holographic Home”

Mary Evelyn Pritchard is an artist and community weaver whose work focuses on creating sacred spaces and experiences.  In her business practice The Holographic Home, she works as a Feng Shui practitioner, interior designer and land worker.  In addition, she has been actively exploring the realms of feminine embodiment and eros through study and personal practice for the last 8 years, and more recently, has begun sharing opportunities to explore these topics with others.  She has a particular passion for facilitating community ritual as a pathway to individual and collective healing.

Today our conversation plays with notions of the feminine and what it means to embody all aspects of this divine energy. Mary Evelyn shares personally her journey into feminine embodiment when she was initiated by an ectopic pregnancy leading to a major surgery. Her recovery and reclaiming has seeded her with a deep wisdom and a passion for exploring and sharing the gifts of freedom that unfold from an embodiment of the feminine. She sees community ritual as being potent medicine for women who are healing and recovering their connection with the “dark feminine.” We learn about her evolution into the work she now offers in the spaces we reside and how this too is an offering of daily ritual into the places we call home.

She’s hosting a retreat in her sacred home space for feminine embodiment with her mentor and collaborator Whitney Ullom, Tending the Well, July 19-21. She has a few spaces open so if you are interested, be in touch soon!

You can connect with Mary Evelyn via her website or Instagram.
