Duncan Rich “Men’s Spaces and Modern Masculinity”

Today we are joined by Duncan Rich, a father, a husband, an artist, a facilitator of somatic men’s work, and a co-founder of MELD, a men’s wellness company. Duncan shares some personal background and what brought him to working with men and holding space for them. He provides insight into the importance of men’s spaces and having male voices in wellness spaces. Together we explore some of the deeper questions and challenges men face today – how to reach men who have been culturally shaped to disconnect from their emotions, what the manosphere is and how it’s being co-opted by a wounded masculine archetype, the challenges of defining masculinity, navigating aspirational masculinity, and reclaiming the Noble Father.

S. 1 E. 2 Dancing with Water with Dr. Catherine Svehla

Today on the show we are in conversation with Catherine Svehla, PhD, an independent scholar, storyteller, and mentor in the mythic life. She works with artists on their projects and process, and guides people through work/life transitions by connecting them with their inner wisdom. She is the creator of the Myth Matters podcast (part of the Joseph Campbell Foundation’s MythMaker℠ Podcast Network) and also shares the transformative power of myths and fairytales through story-based workshops and events. Catherine holds a PhD in mythology and depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and has been working the liminal fields of myth, creativity, and consciousness for 30 years. Today we explore “the feminine” archetype beginning with Dr. Svehla’s understanding of Jung’s “feminine” and why she advises finding different methods of achieving our shared goal of shifting the power dynamic of the patriarchy. We learn about the philosophy of post Jungian Feminists who offer better working models for us and why Catherine believes it’s important to avoid the Essentialist perspective of fixed gender qualities. So how does gender play a role in all of this? Let us know your thoughts in this ongoing collaborative conversation.

Dr. Svehla will be in the Hudson Valley next week as a part of Kelli Scar’s Lesser Mysteries happenings.  She will be holding a talk about “The Problem of the Return” on April 29th, 2026 at the Art Society of Kingston.

Here’s our previous conversation with Dr. Svehla from September 2025.
