342 Kate Valentine “A Woman of a Certain Rage”

Kate Valentine is one of the instigators of the feminist neo-burlesque movement. The Va Va Voom Room was her weekly variety show running at the beloved cabaret space Fez Under Time Café in NYC. Her hilariously deadpan mistress of ceremonies character Miss Astrid traveled all over the globe entertaining audiences with her quick improvisational wit.

Concurrently, Ms. Valentine wrote and starred in many sketch comedy shows and directed and created works of experimental dance theatre. Directing credits include The Terrorism of Everyday Life, which won a Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

Get tickets to this Sunday’s, October 6, 2024, performance of A Woman of a Certain Rage, 8pm at the Orpheum in Saugerties. It is Kate’s first full length solo show. A romp, a rant, a bloodletting, about living in a female body in the 21st century. A vivisection of the American medical system. Your Doctor is in and he has been diagnosed with white male privilege. Ms. Valentine is filling your prescription for dismantling the patriarchy!”

This 70-minute show utilizes raw personal stories, physical comedy, dance, and pure undiluted female energy. A Woman of a Certain Rage is a call to action — to project our Rage out into the world and to utilize that heat to propel us into a dynamic harmonious future.

Today Kate shared about why she created this performance, and some of the background around the content of the performance including the physical and emotion experiences that led to a deeper awareness of the harms she’d experienced in life. A goal for this show is to help galvanize support for the long overdue passage of the ERA through.

You can find and follow Kate on Instagram  for updates on performances and more.

“Solar Eclipses also remind us that confusion, disorientation, and chaos often precede clarity: they invite us to deepen our introspection and encourage us to come back to alignment before continuing to move forward.”

We listened to music from these ladies.

332 Mary Evelyn Pritchard “The Holographic Home”

Mary Evelyn Pritchard is an artist and community weaver whose work focuses on creating sacred spaces and experiences.  In her business practice The Holographic Home, she works as a Feng Shui practitioner, interior designer and land worker.  In addition, she has been actively exploring the realms of feminine embodiment and eros through study and personal practice for the last 8 years, and more recently, has begun sharing opportunities to explore these topics with others.  She has a particular passion for facilitating community ritual as a pathway to individual and collective healing.

Today our conversation plays with notions of the feminine and what it means to embody all aspects of this divine energy. Mary Evelyn shares personally her journey into feminine embodiment when she was initiated by an ectopic pregnancy leading to a major surgery. Her recovery and reclaiming has seeded her with a deep wisdom and a passion for exploring and sharing the gifts of freedom that unfold from an embodiment of the feminine. She sees community ritual as being potent medicine for women who are healing and recovering their connection with the “dark feminine.” We learn about her evolution into the work she now offers in the spaces we reside and how this too is an offering of daily ritual into the places we call home.

She’s hosting a retreat in her sacred home space for feminine embodiment with her mentor and collaborator Whitney Ullom, Tending the Well, July 19-21. She has a few spaces open so if you are interested, be in touch soon!

You can connect with Mary Evelyn via her website or Instagram.
