251 Adrianne Theetge “Returning to and Taking Care of Self”

Adrianne Theetge moved to the Hudson Valley from Georgia after doing disaster relief in NYC for 9/11 in the AmeriCorps NCCC program. After several years working and serving our elections and our political system, she just recently went back to graduate school to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. She loves her new career as an ENL teacher serving students who are learning the English language. Experiencing grief after the loss of her brother and father she shares with us some of what has helped her through that process. She is a proud mother of two daughters. One of which, Aliza, has been a guest on the show in the past. She enjoys being outside running on the beautiful trails in the Hudson Valley, playing soccer, reading, thrift store shopping, exploring new places, and meditating (a new found invaluable tool).

I loved our talk today that actually took place at my house over tea. Adrianne is so warm and thoughtful and shares deeply from her heart space about grief, talking through the hard bits, career change, overcoming fears, letting people in, saying yes or no when that’s her truth, being a mom, and the secrets to her happy marriage.

Today’s bonus conversation with Warren is about brain health.

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.

Our show music is from Shana Falana!

#169 Kayleigh Stack “The Community Storytelling Composition Project”

Kayleigh Stack is an activist, artist, community steward, medicine womxn and a member of the neurodivergent community assuming the various roles of multidisciplinary performance artist, ethnographic researcher, oral historian and acupuncture clinician. Over the past ten years she has orchestrated spaces for people to share recorded audios of poignant histories and stories oriented around critical social and political narratives to be presented in an Oral History Performance Initiative: The Community Storytelling Composition Project.

https://www.thecommunitystorytellingcompositionproject.com.

Most of her work focuses on socio-political discourse, drawing upon performance as a subversive tool to generate conversation around a particular poignant or charged subject including; Disconnection, Involuntary Waste, Local Food Systems, Hydraulic Fracking, Gender politics and Systemic injustices.

She has degrees in Sociology from Hunter College, NY, Anthropology from SUNY New Paltz, NY, a Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and a NYS, NCCAOM Licensed Acupuncturist. Kayleigh is a part of the incoming Masters of Oral History cohort at Columbia University, and she will begin her PhD studies in Humanities at Concordia University with the Fall 2022 class.

All of The CSCProject performance initiatives are less about putting on a “show” and more about generating a conversation. The hope is that this conversation does not end with the presentation alone, but translates into long-term institutional, economic, policy, and infrastructural change. In an attempt to make the performance more immersive, we find non-invasive, tactile ways to connect with the audience through various props.

Here’s a link to the online Zine that was discussed today as well!

And here’s the “No One Like You” interview with several of the other CSCP collaborators.

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radio Kingston, AND produced, hosted, and edited by ME, Theresa, so please forgive any hiccups.
