S.1 E.5 Full Moon Reflections with Jennifer and Theresa

It’s time for us to pause and reflect on our most recent conversations and honor the Full Moon Full. Yes, we’re still talking about the “F” word, “feminine.” Is using it helping to bring some healing to the archetype? Ultimately what we’re curious about is bringing balance to the masculine and feminine which begins with reflection and curiosity, so that’s what we’re committed to. How does the role of the mother relate to the feminine and how are the distinctions helpful? We reflect upon our inclusion of the male experience and how that also feels important. We conclude with a little Full Moon reflection and commitments to ourselves in our Full Moon rituals.

S.1 E.1 Dancing with Water with Lorís Simón Salum

Lorís Simón Salum is a Jungian psychotherapist whose work lives at the intersection of psyche, body, and symbol. Based in Houston, she works with dreams, sandtray, and LENS neurofeedback. Her path is deeply influenced by the Marion Woodman tradition, and she is currently a training candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zürich. Alongside her clinical work, she is developing a documentary project on the relationship between symbol and embodied transformation.

In 2013 she released her documentary film Ensoulment, A Diverse Analysis of the Feminine in Western Culture, portraying a road to self discovery through the tangles of Jungian theory, cultural narratives and personal intuition. An internationally award-winning film that screened across multiple countries and numerous cities.

Our conversation weaves through topics on “the feminine,” how gender is related to and separate from feminine and masculine embodiment, the role women play in patriarchy and moving beyond it, the inner lives of men, and finding balance amongst it all.

You can learn more about Lorís’s work at lorissimon.com, and follow her on Instagram.

409 Fire, War, Miracles “Spirituality and Politics”

It’s time for Spirituality and Politics with Marielena Ferrer and I. Today we talk about how we’re letting go of last year and entering this year by way of our New Year/Solstice wish rituals. We ponder fire as portal into another dimension, why we wish for things, the purpose of a wish and what we feel permission to wish for.

Because Marielena is from Venezuela, we dip our toe into the complexities of the political situations we find our country in, and how our inner children are relating to them.

We end with some New Moon Vibes and a contemplation of miracles. More on that next month for our final show!

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.

Our show music is from Shana Falana!

389 “Navigating the Void” with Beth Carestia

This month on the Feminine Frequency with Jennifer Mulak, we sit down with a dear friend Beth Carestia. Living in the Hudson Valley for almost two decades Beth has come to love our vibrant and diverse community. Local Tarot Reader, proud O+ Alum performer with The Goddess Party and soon to be the MC for the O+ Festival Comedy Show second year running.

Playing faithfully with the Rosendale Ukulele group for some time now has brought Beth joy beyond measure. Also being Beth’s fifth time contributing her voice to a Radio Kingston show, all have become sparkling personal highlights.

We chat with Beth about recently leaving her 9-5 and stepping into what’s next. How the yearning to do something more aligned with her passion and purpose started brewing long before the leap, how the loss of the structure has nudged her to look more deeply inward and importantly, how she values and cares for herself. We talk about how she’s approaching life with less structure, more joy and a lot of compassion for self. Having all been there in one way or the other, we all vibe about what it is to be in that liminal space, sometimes called the void or the underworld, between where you’ve been and where you’re going.

This past weekend’s New Moon is perfectly aligned with what we’re talking about and where we’re at.

385 The Feminine Frequency “Intuition”

Today on The Feminine Frequency, Jennifer Mulak and I talk about Intuition. But first! We revisit the use of the word “feminine” and why we’re working with it, despite feedback that it can feel prickly (my words).

So what is intuition? Where does it come from? Why is it undervalued? How do you recognize it? How has it come up in our own lives? How do you cultivate it? Just some of the topics we consider and share on today’s show.

Here’s the book, Everyday Intuition Jennifer recommended on intuition.

And a Happy Birthday to our Leo Friends! Come celebrate with Sarah Carlson this Saturday at the Unicorn in Kingston… Solarize Dance Party.

376 Theresa’s Heroine’s Journey

Today on the show, Jennifer Mulak interviews Theresa as she shares much of her life story through the lens of the Heroine’s Journey. Growing up as a “father’s daugher” and identifying with career over motherhood, Theresa assimilated with the masculine, finding masculine allies and often being the sole female member of various “boys clubs.” When her planned wedding was canceled, it woke her up to the choices she was making in life and how she had drifted far from the things she was truly passionate about. She talks about the struggles to leave the various patriarchal settings, the status and the financial success of that world, and how her journey to become a mother really rooted her in a reclaiming of the feminine and a return to wholeness. Do you have a story that relates to the Heroine’s Journey? Let us know how it resonates for you.

Happy New Moon! Here’s an essay from Cory Nakasue on Saturn’s Entrance into Aries.

375 The Heroine’s Journey

I had a last minute change in plans due to a health emergency with my planned guest, but I took that as an opportunity to dig a little deeper into the Heroine’s Journey which Jennifer and I will be folding into our conversations on The Feminine Frequency (next week). Here’s a rough outline from The Heroine’s Journey Project. Let me know if you relate!

  1. HEROINE SEPARATES FROM THE FEMININE. The “feminine” is often a mother/mentor figure or a societally prescribed feminine/marginalized/outsider role.
  2. IDENTIFICATION WITH THE MASCULINE & GATHERING OF ALLIES. The heroine embraces a new way of life. This often involves choosing a path that is different than the heroine’s prescribed societal role, gearing up to “fight” an organization/role/group that is limiting the heroine’s life options, or entering some masculine/dominant-identity defined sphere.
  3. ROAD/TRIALS AND MEETING OGRES & DRAGONS. The heroine encounters trials and meets people who try to dissuade the heroine from pursuing their chosen path, or who try to destroy the heroine.
  4. EXPERIENCING THE BOON OF SUCCESS. The heroine overcomes the obstacles in their way. (This is typically where the hero’s journey ends.)
  5. HEROINE AWAKENS TO FEELINGS OF SPIRITUAL ARIDITY/DEATH. The heroine’s new way of life (attempting the masculine/dominant identity) is too limited. Their success in this new way of life is either temporary, illusory, shallow, or requires a betrayal of self over time.
  6. INITIATION & DESCENT TO THE GODDESS. The heroine faces a crisis of some sort in which the new way of life is insufficient, and the heroine falls into despair. All of the masculine/dominant-group strategies have failed them.
  7. HEROINE URGENTLY YEARNS TO RECONNECT WITH THE FEMININE. The heroine wants to, but is unable to return to their initial limited state/position.
  8. HEROINE HEALS THE MOTHER/DAUGHTER SPLIT. The heroine reclaims some of their initial values, skills, or attributes (or those of others like them) but now views these traits from a new perspective.
  9. HEROINE HEALS THE WOUNDED MASCULINE WITHIN. The heroine makes peace with the “masculine” approach to the world as it applies to them.
  10.  HEROINE INTEGRATES THE MASCULINE & FEMININE. In order to face the world/future with a new understanding of themselves and the world/life, the heroine integrates the “masculine” and “feminine” qualities/perspectives. This permits the heroine to see through binaries and to interact with a complex world that includes the heroine but is also larger than their personal lifetime or their geographical/cultural milieu.

371 The Feminine Frequency with Jennifer Mulak

Today I start an exciting new monthly conversation with Jennifer Mulak, titled The Feminine Frequency which is a reweaving of the feminine ways of being into ourselves, our relations, and the containers and systems that support life in community. Inspired by our own lived experiences and supported by Dr. Sharon Blackie’s work and book, If Women Rose Rooted (amongst other wisdom keepers) we hope to explore the undoing of the patriarchal programming that we are all immersed in. On this inaugural show, we share the inspiration for The Feminine Frequency, how it came into its initial shape, some currently relevant feminine practices including pulling a card from Dr. Blackie’s Rooted Woman Tarot Deck, and what we hope to explore together and with you in future shows. During our embodiment practice for this show, Jennifer shares some ways the Spring plants can be supportive to you, and I share a little of the New Moon forecast for this Sunday by way of Tanaaz at Forever Conscious. “This New Moon wants us, as much as possible, to focus our attention on the outcome we are after, rather than the problems we are navigating.” This is exactly what The Feminine Frequency is about, what do we want our world to look like as we rebalance the feminine with the masculine, and how do we align with that vision.

351 The Divine Feminine

Today I spend some time sharing my thoughts about the divine feminine. Sparked by a contradiction that I observed during the most recent presidential election, I wanted to share what I believe to be the divine feminine, how it shows up in our lives, and how we can cultivate it for ourselves and in our community. If you have thoughts about this and want to talk or brainstorm please reach out!
