#79 Health Care is a Human Right and Aemen Bell on Devaxing

Today I get to speak with 4 fine ladies from Health Care is a Human Right (HCHR), a 501(c)3 not for profit charitable corporation, founded in 2003 by Susan Weeks, Physician Assistant, Vicky O’Dougherty, Homeopath, Susan Bissonnett, RN, and Jill Elliot, DVM. Since its inception, Health Care is a Human Right has offered free clinics in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York. NOTE: they are in the process of updating their website so if you come to a landing page with a red button saying "Learn More," click on that to be linked to the clinic info.

Joining the conversation is Susan Weeks, long time Physicians Assistant, Board President and co-founder of HCHR. Ida Rivera, Life Coach, Reiki Master and administrative assistant at HCHR, Jesse Scherer, Massage Therapist and volunteer coordinator at HCHR, and Wendy Wolosoff-Hayes, a practitioner of Spacious Heart Guidance, student of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, Matrix Energetics and several other energy healing modalities. We talk about why the organization was formed and how they all got involved with it, what they each do and why they do it. Plus we get to laugh a lot even though we’re talking about some serious stuff…health care IS a human right.

All are welcome to their free clinics, but if you have the means, donations are greatly appreciated! For a list of their upcoming clinics jump on over -> here.

For the second hour, I get to sit down with the wise and magical Aemen Bell, a certified Western Herbalist, who also works with the healing power of food, movement, breath, and Earth energies in her practice. After spending nearly two decades in NYC studying herbs, shamanism, and people, she’s delighted to now live in the mountains of Woodstock, New York. She teaches classes throughout the country on herbs and healing. She is currently writing several books & is available throughout the region for healing consultations and workshops in person and via telephone. Aemen is teaching a workshop on "Devaxing Our Kids" on August 8th at Woodstock Healing Arts. Aemen will share what to do before and after, including non-toxic, easy to use herbal remedies, as well as foods for the healing process. On today’s show Aemen shares the mystical story of finding a fasting book at the age of 14 and then secretly embarking on her own 10 day water fast which healed a chronic health condition and leading her into a life of herbalism. We get devaxing tips plus props for Burdock and Raspberry Leaf for uterine health. She’s pretty inspiring when it comes to personal wellness, awareness and the search for answers. I forget the exact quote (you’ll have to listen to confirm), but when talking about how she moved from a state of panic when thinking about vaxing her daughter to one of solution mode, she says, herbs are one answer, there are always many answers. Thanks Aemen!

Next week I get to speak with Lila Lolling on moving past sudden divorce, healing epilepsy with yoga, yoga philosophy, yoga for the deaf community and eco-living.

#78 Endometriosis with Dr. Amy Novatt and Mel Toth

Wow, today was a powerful show of Mel Toth sharing her journey with Endometriosis. We start the conversation with Dr. Amy Novatt, Gynecologist and women’s health advocate, explaining what Endometriosis is, how to recognize the symptoms of the disease, why it’s hard to diagnose and treat, and how to manage the symptoms. Whether or not you suffer from this disease or are experiencing some other health concern, it seems there’s evidence enough for all of us to take the best care of ourselves as possible, reduce stress, eat nutritionally and prioritize our own health.

After this intro to "Endo," we get to learn about Mel, how she began her teaching career first instructing 4th graders and now teaching yoga at Shakti Woodstock and The Yoga House in Kingston. Mel openly and bravely shares the challenges that she’s faced with her health from painful and debilitating periods where she would often bleed for two weeks to the diagnosis of Endometriosis after discovering a large (22cm) mass on her ovary. After her first surgery, doctors warned her that if she wanted children she should begin to think about that as the Endometriosis could make it more difficult down the road. That sparked a journey to figure out what to do about children, leading to some time not worrying about it and then trying to get pregnant with the use of fertility enhancing drugs. Tune in to hear all that unfolds for Mel and her journey through fertility and surgery. She’s now on a path of deep self care, supported by a Canadian doctor and her practice, The Natural Endo Movement.

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Mel and was enraptured by her story. I hope to get her back on soon to go deeper into some of the big issues that she’s so gracefully navigating!

#77 Women’s Small Business + Kara Martin Snyder “Le Vital Corps Salon” Podcast

Hey, hey, I am in Wisconsin this week so playing some very special recorded interviews.

First up, I speak with a group of powerhouse women who are all panelists at the upcoming, 3 Hours of Peace, Love and Women’s Small Business, happening at Provisions in Woodstock on July 19th from 4-7pm. Our talk is just a small sample of the wisdom that will be shared by these ladies during the event that I am moderating. Today, we talk about what makes them good at what they do and what they do when the going gets tough. Joining me in this conversation and on the 19th are: Dani Hughes of Divine Asset Mgt. – Raising money and valuing your business: Abbe Aronson, of Abbe Does It – Public relations and marketing, editorial, event planning, image and design consulting, fundraising and what she refers to as “artful schmoozing” — business intros that truly count; Jolie Peters, of Tinker Street Social – Social media and digital marketing agency dedicated to small businesses and non-profits, and how to grow your online presence and best practices; Wendy Heilbut, of Jayaram Law – Attorney & Angel investor, works with emerging companies as their outside general counsel helping position them for growth; Lauree Ostrofsky of Simply Leap, LLC – author, business coach, hugger & founder of Hudson Valley Women in Business, the largest community of women business owners in our region. Get your tix to the event on the 19th HERE!

Next I play my interview with Kara Martin Snyder, recorded just a few short weeks ago. Kara is an unconventionally resourceful, former bean-counting, question-asking machine, critical thinker, and strategic problem-solver who’s been turning around stressful, chaotic situations for individuals and organizations for over 20 years. After a decade of supporting frazzled, Type-A women at the intersection of functional health & lifestyle redesign, she’s now focusing her efforts on Le vital corps Salon podcast, where she hosts successful working women – from artists to change agents to astronauts – and asks them how they navigate BS and sidestep burnout. Kara and I talk about life as a CPA, what that lifestyle did to her health, how to make the difficult but powerful decision to transition from one career to another, and what she’s doing now in addition to podcasting, hint…beekeeping!

Next week, we welcome back Dr. Amy Novatt and Mel Toth, talking women’s health, endometriosis and radical self-care!

Until then, love yourself and uplift one another!
